Hat Care

It is important you look after your headpiece as they are delicate and require some special attention to keep them looking their best

Handling your fabulous headpiece

Try not to pick your hat or headpiece up by the crown or any attachments – always pick it up by the brim or the base.  Make sure your hands are clean and dry.  Once on your head adjust your piece and place into position from the crown – gently does it at all times!

Weather watch!

All our headwear is handcrafted using traditional methods of blocking and using steam or water to shape your design.  It is then dried and stiffened.  It is therefore super important you do not allow your hat or headpiece to get wet if it is raining as this will distort the shape – make sure you have your brolly at the ready! If your piece does get wet, please ensure you let it dry naturally – do not use direct heat as again this will distort the shape

Storage

Your fabulous headwear from Emma will come in its own hatbox with tissue paper for cushioning.  It is advised you store your headpiece in the box out of direct sunlight when not in use.  Equally it is important not to store your headpiece near direct heat as this too can damage and un-do some of the delicate trims.  Hats of any material will fade if exposed to direct sunlight

Cleaning

Brush felt and straw hats lightly with a soft bristle brush and use sticky tape gently to remove lint and dust from fur and felt hats.  DO NOT dry clean or wet clean your hat
